'Lovesshuda' review: Girish and Navneet's chemistry is the saving grace of this love story
Loveshhuda

Film: Lovesshuda
Cast: Girish Kumar, Navneet Dhillon, Tisca Chopra, Sachin Khedekar
Director: Vaibhav Misra
Rating: **

What it's about

Falling for the wrong person who then becomes the right one has been a premise for many a love story. Vaibhav Misra’s Loveshhuda is no exception. The morning after his bachelor party, Gaurav (Girish) finds himself in bed with Pooja (Navneet) but just cannot remember how it happened and who she is. She borrows a shirt from him while leaving, which he later remembers is one he cannot part with. So he goes down hunting for her. When they meet again, sparks fly between the two but Gaurav returns to get married to a woman he can’t stand. Some years later, the inevitable (divorce) has happened. To bring him out of his low spirits, his friends decide to take him to Mauritius for a holiday. There, he encounters Pooja again who is preparing set to get married. But this time, Girish isn’t willing to leave anything to chance. The rest of the film is about how he manages to win her over.

What’s hot

Considering it’s a Tips production (and for the producer’s son), there’s a lot of gloss in the film, which is rare for a film of this size. Presentation and styling is of top quality. The canvas is big as the film is spread across London, India and Mauritius. The songs are quite obviously catchy ('Aaj Phir Peene Ki Tamanna Hai' is awkwardly addictive). There’s a certain freshness that both the boy and the girl bring on screen, which is pleasant. Girish Kumar is not your typical chocolate boy but comes with his unique charm. Navneet Dhillon has a good presence and matches him well. It’s their camaraderie that holds the film even when everything else is failing.

What’s not

The story is nothing out of the ordinary. That is why they needed to get the screenplay right. In a love story and especially one with fresh faces, if the situations and characters aren’t new and novel, you’ve already lost the battle. It’s sad to see so much of money being spent on production values. If only a miniscule part of it had been spent on getting the script right. Both the writing and the direction are sluggish so the film never reaches a crescendo. The result is a wannabe and wasted effort where the focus is entirely on form instead of content.

What to do

Watch it if you must for the lead pair’s chemistry and the picturesque tours of London and Mauritius. The rest of it is just ho-hum.
