'Ko 2' Tamil film review: Think before you vote, is the underlying message
Bobby Simha and Nikki Galrani

Film: Ko 2
Cast: Bobby Simha, Prakash Ra, Nikki Galrani
Director: Sarath

What it's about: With the elections around the corner, it looks like producer Elred Kumar thought it was the right time to release Ko 2. Ko was a film he had made earlier with a political theme as well and it was a superhit. This movie may have the same name, but it's not connected to the other one in any way except for the theme.

Ko 2 is a vigilante film with Bobby Simha playing the protagonist and Prakash Raj as the Chief Minister of the state. The storyline is taken from the Telugu film Prathinidhi which director Sarath has turned around for local sensibilities. Kumaran (Bobby Simha) kidnaps the Chief Minister (Prakash Raj). In come the Home Minister (Ilavarasu) and a police superintendent (John Vijay) who set out to rescue the CM. Why was the CM kidnapped? What does Kumaran want? What is the role of the journalist (Nikki Galrani) in this?

What’s good: This movie is like a breath of fresh air when compared to all the usual masala films that are released. The concept and storyline will strike a chord with the audience as it talks about politicians, the promises they make, corruption and so on. Some of the dialogues in the film from Kumaran are superb and elicit claps from viewers. Some conversations between Kumaran and the Home Minister elicit laughs as do John Vijay and Bala Saravanan. The music for the film is by Leon James and the audio – a hit - was released more than six months back. He has done a really good job with the BGM as well and this doesn’t look like his debut film at all.

What’s not: Unfortunately, Ko 2 falls short on numerous aspects. National Award-winning actor Bobby Simha is talented, but as a hero, he falls flat. He lacks the charisma to carry off the urban hero. The first half of the film is extremely slow and drags while the second half is where the story unravels. The romance between Bobby Simha and Nikki Galrani lacks chemistry and is poorly written as well. The songs are also quite random in the film and don’t seem to fit in. The movie also seems to be a low-budget film as can be seen from the poor production value. Considering it released more than a year late, the filmmakers could have tweaked the film more.

What to do: The film released at the right time of elections in Tamil Nadu. Those who watch it might think a little more before they vote.
