'Housefull 3' review: Akshay Kumar, Ritiesh Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan make it a laugh riot

Movie: Housefull 3
Starring: Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandes, Lisa Haydon, Nargis Fakhri, Boman Irani, and Jackie Shroff
Directed by: Farhad-Sajid

What's It About:

Multi-starrer films have almost become obsolete in today's times. Housefull 3 comes at a time when the audience is hungry for it. And despite its space and flavour, there is a certain appeal to the madness. The third one in the franchise, Housefull 3 is about Batook Patel (Boman) who doesn't want his three daughters (Jacqueline, Lisa, and Nargis) to get married. But the girls have already given their hearts away to Sandy (Akshay), Teddy (Riteish) and Bunty (Abhishek). To match the father's conditions and convince him, the three guys enter the house pretending to be crippled, blind and mute respectively. Chaos happens when former underworld don Urja Nagre (Jackie) also arrives on the scene. Because of a certain circumstance, the three guys now have to switch the disabilities between them, leading to confusion galore.

What's Hot:

Farhad-Sajid have a clear and distinct style when it comes to comedy (which was evident in their debut film Entertainment). There is major emphasis on dialogue to drive the screenplay, almost reminiscent of Rohit Shetty's Golmaal series. A film like Housefull 3 isn't an easy one to make, with multiple characters and tracks to handle. Housefull 3 is full of moments that will make you fall off your seat in laughter. The performances of the lead actors maintain the zing factor in the film. Riteish keeps bettering himself at comedy with every film. Abhishek is at his best with his counter reactions. The flashback portions of Jackie Shroff have been handed deftly . He actually looks like Jaggu dada of Hero. Housefull 3's lifeline is Akshay Kumar who keeps adding something new in every scene. His has a difficult role (he plays a person with split personality) but the way he transitions between both characters is delightful to watch. Akshay returns to comedy after long, and he is enjoying it as much as you will.

What's Not:

The screenplay is patchy in places. The film takes a long time to take off. Then, in the second half too, there are places where the proceedings dip. The dialogues (main bachhe nahin bana rahi hoon. Translation-- I am not kidding) don't draw laughs. In terms of production values, despite being a Nadiadwala film, this one's a tad lower than the previous Housefulls. The VFX could have been better - the terribly animated ants really take away Akshay's performance from the scene. The leading ladies have little to do in the film. And the styling has to be the worse. Throughout the film, they are dressed as if they are set to take a walk on Rodeo Drive.

What To Do:

Housefull 3 is mad, irreverent and funny. And it has Akshay Kumar's outstanding return to comedy in one of his finest performances. Go for it.
