Film review: Watch 'Tamanchey' if you have nothing better to do

Rating: **

Director: Navneet Behal.

Starring: Richa Chadda, Nikhil Dwivedi, Damandeep Singh

What's it about:

Tamanchey is about two criminals Munna (Nikhil) and Babu (Richa), who are on the run after the police vvan that they are travelling in overturns. After a brief romantic liason, Babu chooses to walk away. Munna follows to Delhi only to find that she's the mistress and right-hand of a possessive gang leader, Rana (Damandeep). Munna joins Rana's gang with the intention of eloping with Babu. The two carry out a series of robberies for Rana, while carrying on with their affair. But things change when a robbery goes the wrong and they end up killing a cop. Things get worse when their plan to kill Rana fails and their secret affair gets exposed.

What's good:

Very little. The one thing that you do remember after watching the movie is the track Kishore-Kumar-Ahsa Bhosle track Pyaar Mein Dil Pe Maar De Goli that's been reprised in the movie. You cant compare them to Bunty aur Babli as they are placed in a darker world a la Bonnie and Clyde. Nikhil and Richa are alright in the roles that they are given, but there isn't a single scene that you can say belongs to either one of them. The climax is shot well, but the film could have been tighter. The lovemaking scenes seem forced and slightly awkward. There's one that has some rather unimaginative use of tomatoes in it.

What's not:

The movie credit include Navneet Behal as the visual director, Deepti Nangia is the song director, while Suryaveer Singh Bullar is the creative director. Just too many cooks here. The music is forgettable and background score's sometimes jarring. After a week that saw the release of Haider and Bang Bang this is very uninspiring fare.

What to do:

Watch it only if you have nothing better to do this weekend.
