Baahubali 2 Review: Despite a disappointing climax, the SS Rajamouli film is engaging and deserves to be seen!

Film: Baahubali The Conclusion
Directed by: SS Rajamouli
Starring:  Prabhas, Rana Daggubati,  Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty,  Sathyaraj, Ramya Krishnan

What it's about:
Undoubtedly the most awaited film of the year. Love, betrayal, revenge and war form the backdrop of Rajamouli's much celebrated cinematic triumph, Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion. The first part left behind a lot of questions and the answers are finally unravelled on screen. A large portion of the sequel focuses on the love story between Baahubali (Prabhas) and Devasena (Anushka Shetty). The audience will also know why Sivagami (Ramya) opted for Baahubali as the ruler of the kingdom of Mahishmati over the evil Bhallala Deva (Rana Daggubati). And finally, the revelation that everyone's been waiting for - why Katappa killed Baahubali.

What's hot:
It's a fantasy film and it delivers on that promise. You are transported into the world of the kings and warriors, of brave men and petty politics. The film engages you so well that you will cheer for Baahubali every step of the way, and curse Sivagami for being blind to his noble ways and getting manipulated. The romance between Prabhas and Anushka is old world and appealing. The mother-son conflict is the crux of the film and their scenes together are the main highlights of the film. Ramya, Rana and Anushka do their bits but Prabhas is the soul of the film.

What's not:
What you expect is not what you get.  You are thirsting for action and drama, and you are served romance for most part. And when the action does begin, it's less than wow. Disappointingly, you can see the CGI coming a mile away. The moods and the moments are nowhere close to the first installment of the film. The plot points are silly and similar to those in any TV serial. Brothers fighting, jealousy, manipulating the mother, death and deceit. Nothing new here. The climax drags after a point and disappoints.

What to do:
No brainer. It deserves to be seen. It is Baahubali, after all.

Rating: *** (Three stars)
