Amrita Rao is enjoying her television experience as the host of the show The Perfect Bride. However, she feels that reality television is more challenging than cinema as that brings out one’s real self. Thus, the percentage of acceptance or dismissal by audiences is much higher than movies where one only plays a scripted character.
“It is not possible to put up an act when cameras roll all the time. That’s the biggest risk for me, a cinema actor, as I’m always playing roles and characters those are scripted and have no or little resemblance to how I am in real life. Television has been my biggest challenge. Now, by being part of a reality show my real side will be exposed. So, I’ll either be accepted widely for how I am or completely rejected by the audience,” Amrita said.
The actor added, “God forbid, if the latter happens, it would be a huge blow to my brand value. My audiences are the ones who go to the theatres when my movie opens. If they don’t like me as a person they will not go to see my movies.”
Though her stint with TV has been going good, for Amrita movies will always be her first priority. “Under no circumstances I will disrupt my movie career, even if my TV career is flourishing. I want to do more challenging TV shows but there is none I’m signing this year. I did it because I was free during these months,” she said.
Amrita has been the show-stopper at various fashion shows of late. She recently scorched the ramp for Suneet Varma at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in New Delhi. So what is it about the ramp that attracts her to it?
“It is the undivided attention that is really drawing me to it. I feel like a diva on it, someone who is unapproachable and it is also a fringe benefit of being an actor,” she said.
And what was the reason to walk for Sunnet Varma? “We are good friends actually. Suneet and I got introduced at a party hosted by Manish Malhotra. I think I’m lucky to be meeting good-looking designers these days,” she said.
