'Wake Up Sid' is a coming of age film, says Ranbir
Actor Ranbir Kapoor has said that his upcoming film Wake Up Sid was a coming of age movie where everyone will identify with the protagonist.

"It is a cool film about waking up to life, family, love, career", Ranbir told reporters here.

He said he decided to do the film because it was the finest script he had heard in his two-year-old career.

Ranbir is paired opposite Konkana Sen Sharma and the film is directed by young debutant Ayan Mukherji and produced by Karan Johar.

Speaking about her character Aisha, Konkana said she was earnest, hardworking and independent young woman completely opposite to the protagonist Sid.

"She is the catalyst in Sid's life and propels him forward which changes his life," the actress said.

Ayan has earlier assisted Karan on Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Ashutosh Gowariker for Swades. He said he was not trying to push down moral values to the audience but just highlighting a phase of Sid's life.

Ayan said he wanted to make a film on his experiences and the life that he had seen so far. "Through this film, I am trying to capture the time of our lives when we were younger and lost, directionless. But, we were so young that we did not care," he said.

He said the tilte Wake Up Sid was suggested by Ranbir. "We decided on the title because it resonates well with the story," he said.

Karan said Wake Up Sid was not a quintessential Dharma productions film full of opulence and melodrama. "I wanted to break out from this perceived mould. I trusted Ayan's emotional sensibilities and his writing appealed to me," the filmmaker said.

Karan said he considers Wake Up Sid as a new age cinema for his banner Dharma productions.

"It is like branching out for me as the year ahead is going to be tough. We are doing four films this year out of which I am directing My Name is Khan. It is an interesting phase. I am now into outsourcing, delegating, trusting," he said.

Wake Up Sid would be released on October two. As part of the marketing, Karan and Bollywood Hungama portal have launched video blogs of the film.

Karan said he wanted to capitalise on the digital space where young generation is today. The video blog will enable the film worldwide access.
