Vikram turns producer

Vikram Bhatt has launched his own production company ASA Films, which aims to encourage new talent. Vikram says, “It is every director’s dream to establish his own company someday and engineer the software that he wants. It’s nice when one can execute one’s own ideas and not seek anybody’s permission. It’s great to reach this position.”

The first project of the company titled ‘Mumbai Salsa’ will be directed by Manoj Tyagi and is expected to release in September this year. The other three projects will be directed by Girish Tinuja, Deepak Tijori and Vikram individually.  Vikram adds, “The film ‘Mumbai Salsa’ revolves around a disco so named. It is a story about different people seeking love in their unique styles.”

While Aditya Chopra’s ‘Mohabbatein’ introduced six new faces; this film goes a step ahead and will be introducing eight aspirants. These include stand up comedian Vir Das and actor Linda Arsenio (of ‘Kabul Express’ fame).

Where did he hunt these faces from? Vikram replies, “There is a huge reservoir of talent in the country; one has to look for them. People usually consider established stars but one must remember that they were also newcomers at some point of time.” So will the company stay away from established actors and technicians? “We do not have any such plans right now. Let’s see what is in store for us in the future,” he ends.
