'Vihir' bags cinematography honours at Asia Pacific awards

Marathi movie Vihir continued garnering international accolades with the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, known as the 'Oscars of the East' too recognising it.

It has become the only Indian entry to win an award at the ceremony held yesterday at Australia's Gold Coast.

This time the recognition has come in the technical department.

Sudhir Palsane won an award for Best Cinematography at the 2010 Asia Pacific Screen Awards held yesterday at Australia's Gold Coast.

Dedicating the award to his entire team, Palsane told PTI that every moment of working for Vihir was challenging.

"Inspite of poor infrastructure and very hectic working hours we did a good job. It is not individually me but the entire cast and crew which needs to be praised," he said.

An FTII graduate, Palsane has earlier worked for French production The Clay Bird (2002), which won the FIPRESCI prize in the directors fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.

His other works include Hindi children's feature film Yeh Hai Chakkad Bakkad Bumbe Bo (2003), Hindi drama Aapa Akka (2009); Italian/German documentary co-production Die Jungfrau von Palermo (2005); Marathi language comedy Valu  (The wild bull) (2008) starring Atul Kulkarni; and black comedy The Damned Rain (2009) which was selected for the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

Besides Vihir (Well), other movies in fray for awards were Marathi movies 'Mee Sindhutai Sapkal and Natrang in various categories.
