Valentino woos Delhi

The capital got a taste of Italian style with Valentino’s first flagship store having opened over the weekend.

Valentino woos Delhi

Joining the brand bandwagon in India is international fashion house Valentino. At a high-profile launch last weekend in the capital city, Mafatlal industries brought down this super-luxury brand. Present at the glittering occasion were style gurus from both Mumbai and Delhi, amongst others.

The first Valentino store in the country, the store was launched by Michele Norsa, CEO, Valentino and Sheetal Mafatlal. The store is a product of a franchising and licensing agreement between Mafatlal Luxury (P) Ltd. and the Marzotto Group that controls Valentino, besides other brands such as Hugo Boss, Missoni and Marlboro Classics.

Valentino, who recently received the French Legion of Honour, could not be present, but sent across his message: “I’m extremely happy at this new opening. India is rich in
its tapestry of fabric and colour and I look forward to drape many beautiful Indian women with my work.”

While there are several reasons why the Mafatlals have tied up with the brand, Sheetal says, “It is a brand with versatile ranges for both men and women. This is true also for its strong varied range of accessories.” While husband Atulya prefers Valentino when it comes to his personal attire, Sheetal expounds on its wearability saying, “This brand targets everyone from 15 years and above.”

Valentino being a 40-year-old aspirational brand, Sheetal points out, “The designs are ever consistent, hence our company wanted to tie up with a premium luxury brand like Valentino.” As for the timing, Sheetal is clear, “With the economy opening up, people’s lifestyles changing and awareness of international trends, this is the right time to bring in such a brand.” And Mumbai might not be far behind. “We are looking for a location in Mumbai. When we see something that fits the brand’s image, we’ll bring Valentino to Mumbai,” she signs off.
