Tusshar Kapoor back on screen as the solo hero

Shor In The City received good reviews and now it’s time to prove his mettle once again. Actor Tusshar Kapoor, who’s all set for the release of Love You Mr Kalakaar opposite actor Amrita Rao has two things to be proud of. “For the first time in 10 years, I am playing the part of a romantic solo hero — do you know what that means? And on top of, it’s with the Rajshri banner; it’s a fabulous feeling, I have to admit. And I am banking a lot on this film,” says an obviously excited Tusshar Kapoor.

His character in the film, which is that of a cartoonist, the actor says, is quite different from his real life personality. “But that doesn’t mean I went around meeting artists and cartoonists to understand their psyche, because not all creative people are alike. But I did spend a lot of time on the script; trying to understand what Sahil (his character) would think, feel or react to a certain situation. But yes, it’s always tough to wear someone else’s hat and become another person,” he adds.

Love You Mr Kalakaar has Kapoor playing a struggling artist who is desperate to make it to the second page of a newspaper as a cartoonist. But then again, he needs a job and ends up with a corporate life, where he meets management trainee Ritu (played by Amrita Rao). “Sahil, is also very laid-back and a dreamer; I am not like that at all, I like to think of myself as someone more aggressive and knows what he wants,” says Kapoor.

After Love You Mr Kalakaar, Kapoor is gearing up for the release of Hum Tum Aur Shabana in August and will begin work on the much-talked-about film Dirty Picture. “I am quite nervous about Dirty Picture. I play a writer who was one of the script-writers for Silk Smitha and her love interest. It’s a very interesting role,” he says.

How about playing a real baddie for a change? “I’ve done one, in Shootout At Lokhandwala, but yeah I’d love to play a really bad guy. And I have no issues with the right timing etc., — give me a good story and I’ll do it,” says the actor. In fact, Kapoor doesn’t mind playing a young college boy either, even though he’s 34 years old. “Don’t you think I can pull off the role of a young guy in his early 20s? Aamir Khan did it — so if they style me properly and the script is good, I’ll do it,” adds Kapoor, who, by self admittance, clearly has very little ego when it comes to work.
