The new crop of Indian hunks is certainly creating a wave in Hollywood with as many as four actors getting rave reviews for their work.

Actors Dileep Rao (Inception, Avatar, Drag Me to Hell), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire, Airbender), Kal Penn (Namesake among 40 other films) and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes, It’s a Wonderful Afterlife) have all made their mark with their acting skills in a cut-throat industry they still feel is difficult to get a foothold on.

“It is difficult to land big projects in Hollywood. One has to be a dreamer and keep persevering and bettering oneself. To get big in Hollywood, one needs to be accepted the world over and more so by the people of America. For an outsider it’s tough but not impossible, as many of us and people from other countries are doing exceptionally well,” says Sendhil, who will soon be seen in an Indian film titled Shor, an Ekta Kapoor production.

Meanwhile Dileep, who was recently seen in Christopher Nolan’s film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, says he is not looking to get typecast by doing similar films or similar roles.

“In movie industries the world over, people get typecast very easily. People from a race are generally offered roles that see them play their ethnicity. Like all actors, I just don’t want to do those films time and again as I know I will get stereotyped. Even in terms of genres, I will experiment like I have done so far. I don’t want to be limited,” he adds.

Dev is of the opinion that with India stamping its presence on the world map, it has certainly made the West look towards the country. “A lot has to do with how India has developed in the recent past. People are looking to travel to the place, people of the West talk about our culture, history and religion only because the spotlight of the world is on us. We are the big thing right now,” Dev had said.

But many of them also feel that they won’t be of great help in a Bollywood movie. “Having learnt the Hollywood sensibilities in terms of making films and the content, I don’t know how I will fit into Bollywood. I thoroughly love the Hindi film industry — the songs and dances are magical and the film-makers and stars are respected the world over, but I don’t know how useful I will be to a project. But let’s see what the future has in store,” Dileep says.
