Attacking Congress for being "non-serious" on Telangana issue, Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday questioned the delay in acceptance of resignation of 10 party MPs and 46 MLAs from Andhra Pradesh though they had "amply and explicitly" expressed their desire to quit.

"When an MP gives his resignation in his own handwriting amply and explicitly expressing his desire to quit, it should be accepted... We would like to know the reason for not accepting their resignation," BJP spokesperson Jagat Prakash Nadda said.

He maintained that the Congress MPs and MLAs had given their resignation to the Lok Sabha and Assembly speakers respectively. The MPs had met the Lok Sabha Speaker and then told media that they wanted to quit on the issue of Telangana, he said.

Nadda clarified that he did not want to drag the respective Speakers on this issue and targeted the Congress for the delay.

"Congress has never been serious about the formation of Telangana. The NDA government had shown seriousness on forming new states and Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand were formed. But the Congress has not been serious about Telangana," Nadda said.
