Tales from the Locker Room

It's absolutely true. Many car manufacturers have started visiting therapists.

The reason? The successful unveiling of the new Tata car--The Nano! The slogan for it is 'Nano--the way forward is saying Tata bye bye to competition'. It hasn't been confirmed as yet, but apparently Daler Mehendi was involved at some level in the coining of this slogan.

Coming back to the Nano, I've done my research on the car and have succinctly put over the next 72 pages (as Shakespeare put it after buying his first vehicle), its highlights.

The word 'nano' comes from the Greek word 'nano' and the Punjabi word 'naan'. In Greek it means literally 'my really small grandmother has arthritis'. In Punjab it refers to a roti like object that should be made with wheat, but is almost always made with maida--a national mistake.

The Nano car is thus small enough to accommodate all four of your grandmothers as well as some crisp naans.

The idea of the Nano doesn't stop here. In an effort to prove that less is more, (incidentally my mantra at work), a blueprint planned for the next 20 years is to come out with an even smaller car, which in turn will lead to smaller people, which will further help to reduce the population (at least when measured in inches).

The car for now will seat four, and if you carry your own two-in-one music system and a set of Chinese hand fans in different shades of pastels, you are set to be a king of the road, and that too on a road that used to be a Republic. And all this is yours for a mere one lakh (hand fans of course cost extra), except in Maharashtra where after all the extra taxes and levies, the car will be yours for a little more than the price of a Honda City.

The stepney is now officially in the other car manufacturer's court. For now it's clear.....er you just can't beat a Tata.
