Tamil director wins top award at children's film fest

Tamil film director Pandiraj bagged the 'Golden Elephant Award' in the 'Best Director' category for his movie Pasanga at the 16th International Children's Film Festival.

The movie got the top honours under the 'Best Asian Film' category at the festival held in Hyderabad, which showcased films from 20 countries, said a press release.

"I was thrilled to watch the movie along with other international directors in Hyderabad when I was told that it has been shortlisted for the award. When they called my name to receive the award, I was happy. As soon as I got the award, I sent a message to the Pasanga Team", Pandiraj told PTI.

This is the director's first international award.

Iranian movie Half Mine Half Yours won the award for the 'Best Film' while Chinese film Two Men's Class Room was selected as the best film in a separate category judged by a jury of children.

The 'Best Screen Play' award went to Iranian movie Child and the Angel.

The festival which took place between 14 and 20 November screened 70 films from around the world.
