'Talaash' is a real encounter on reel, says co-writer Zoya

While it was well-known that the recently-released Reema Kagti film was a suspense thriller, what was kept under wraps was the fact that the film’s climax is actually based on a real life incident. The unexpected twist in the tale which has been taking everyone by surprise was something that filmmaker and co-writer of Talaash, Zoya Akhtar had actually witnessed a few years ago.

Says a source from the film’s production unit, “Zoya is a very rational person, but she had this life-changing experience once while she was driving near Haji Ali. She herself didn’t want to believe it, but she knew that it was true. This experience gave birth to the idea of Talaash and she and Reema decided to flesh out a story based on this experience.”

The filmmaker however was asked not to reveal the incident at all during the promotions from keeping the people from guessing the climax. “Aamir and everyone was keen to not let the climax out or the plot out at all. Since it was for the first time that everyone right from  Aamir to Rani Mukerji to Kareena Kapoor were working on a suspense drama, even they were extremely wary about divulging anything about the story, so decided against speaking out anything about the plot at all. A single leak can be very harmful when it’s a film of this genre and the climax was fiercely guarded right till the end,” adds the insider.

“I really don’t know what to say about the story because saying anything could mean giving away the end, so I’d better not discuss that at all,” Rani had said when asked about her character in the film. Kareena too had refused to talk about the plot at all citing the same reason. And seems like the precautions that the team took are paying off, as trade buzz reveals that the film has opened to a phenomenal response.
