Mumbai: Riteish Deshmukh says he salutes director Sujoy Ghosh's courage to attempt such a difficult project like Aladin that took almost three years to complete.

Riteish Deshmukh stands by his new film's director; calls it a courageous attempt.

"You need to be extremely patient when you try to do a film which is so different and challenging. First, Sujoy needed to deconstruct the Arabian Nights tale and make it more apt to make a Bollywood movie. Secondly, it took around three years to complete. A director's effort to sit on a project for so long and give the same kind of attention and enthusiasm to the film is commendable. Thirdly, the project boasts of amazing special effects that hasn't been seen by Indian audiences. Getting it right was also another huge challenge," Riteish tells DNA.

He adds: "Sujoy has brilliantly changed the plot of the original story to give it a contemporary flavour. His handling of two characters: Genius, the genie from Arabian Nights and the Ringmaster played by Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt respectively has brought another dimension to the story. I think one needs huge amount of courage to try his hand at doing something so different to the already known tale of Aladin. That's where Sujoy stands out as a director and conceiver."

Seeing Riteish in a chatty mood, we decided to probe the speculations that say he is seeing Genelia D'Souza. When questioned, the actor shot off saying: "I don't think I want to talk about what I'm doing in my personal space. That's my space and people should respect it. She and I are good friends but things have been blown out of proportion. Rumours like this used to bother me a lot at one point of time in the past but now I have started taking things with a pinch of salt."
