South Indian films give you security: Manjari Fadnis

Actress Manjari Fadnis, who’s currently in town to finish the last stretch of her Kannada film Munjaane, seems quite at ease being in South India. Quiz her about this and she says, “You know, initially I was quite apprehensive about shooting in a language that I don’t understand. But, when I did my first Telugu film, I realised this could be a whole lot of fun and I’m enjoying it.”

Manjari has done Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films so far. “I am currently doing two Kannada films. We’re almost through with Munjaane (directed by S Narayan and co-starring Ganesh). Dilkush (with Navdeep, directed by Prashanth Raj) is also underway,” says she.

The actor seems to be quite the linguist as she can comprehend the languages easily. “I can now understand most words in Kannada. I always make it a point to get my dialogues and script a couple of days prior to my shoot, so that I can learn, rehearse and comprehend the language, rather than just recite lines I’ve mugged up. This helps me understand the language and the sensibilities,” says Manjari.

The actor has no qualms accepting that South Indian films fetch her greater money and experience as opposed to Bollywood films. “If you’re to look at my career graph, then you can see that there are more South Indian films as opposed to Hindi films. This is because the films go from start to finish to release in six months maximum. My Hindi films on the other hand have taken as many as two years for completion and release,” she says.

Manjari further adds, “South Indian films also give you a certain sense of security. The money, I will readily accept, is good. You also get to do a whole range of films quickly. It adds to your experience and you also get to work with the best technicians and artistes in the country. Even Bollywood gets people from South now.”
