Solapur, the melting pot of various cultures in Maharashtra, is all set to host an International film festival commencing from September 4.
"The four-day festival will be held in this district of Western Maharashtra for the first time, shifting the venues from bigger cities to smaller towns," Jayant Raleraskar, president, Srujan Film Society, which is jointly organising the fest with the Federation of Film Societies of India(FFSI), told PTI.
International film festivals has attained utmost importance incities like 'Venice' 'Cannes' 'Berlin' 'Munich' which brought glory to the global films and their makers. But the venues remained in the domain of metros, he said.
"Of late film and policy makers of the international film festivals and more importantly the FFSI, which is working towards promoting film culture in the country, felt the necessity of organising international film festivals in smaller towns," Raleraskar said.
As this year marks the golden jubilee of FFSI,the federation decided to take global cinema to people in smallertowns and chose Kolhapur, Nagpur and Solapur for organising the film festivals, he said adding Kolhapur got its turn to organise the fest in the first week of June this year.
