Actor-producer Sohail Khan has expressed a desire to don the director's hat yet again but only after making sure he has learnt the finer nuances of the job.

"I want to direct a film but this will not happen soon. It will take some time, maybe by next year as I still have to learn a lot about filmmaking and its process," Sohail told PTI here.

Sohail, who has produced and acted in films like Main Aur Mrs Khanna, Kissan, and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and directed movies like Auzaar, and Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, said that he had taken to acting to to get a first-hand experience of film-making and learn from others already present in the profession.

"I'm acting in films so that I can learn how producers and directors work. I'm trying to get a first-hand experience.

These days young directors like Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Ashutosh Gowariker and others are making new age movies as they have experience of new age cinema," he said.

"Lots of new technologies are used in the process of filmmaking be it some cameras or instruments. I felt the need to learn new things so the best way was to either act in films or produce them and I'm doing it," he said.

According to Sohail, he was happy with what he has achieved as a comedian though he was yet to make a mark as a full-fledged actor.

"I have achieved a mark in comedy. It is not difficult to do so as actors like Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal and others have also achieved a place as far as comedy films are concerned," he said.

"But there are stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, and others who have done well and made a mark for themselves in all kind of roles," he added.

Sohail, who is married to Seema Sachdev and has a son, Nirvaan, said he was a complete family man.

"For me my wife and son are my priority and if they do not get those luxuries or necessary things in their life (which they are accustomed to) then I would surely compromise my lifestyle for them as they both mean a lot to me," he said.
