So what if actor Ranbir Kapoor was spotted partying with actor Katrina Kaif recently at a Juhu nightclub? If sources are to be believed then his co-star in his upcoming film Rockstar, Nargis Fakhri and he were never an item to begin with.

The real story behind the flash-in-a-pan romance between Ranbir and his part Czech, part Pakistani co-star, say sources, is very complicated. Turns out that ‘leaking’ information of an affair between the duo was a clever idea to gain publicity for the film in which they play lovers. The full-fledged publicity of the Imtiaz Ali directed film will begin some time around June, according to spokespersons.

“Ranbir was flirting with Nargis after they were introduced and they might have been spotted canoodling with each other but it was never serious. It was playful… Ranbir and Nargis both enjoy each other’s company. But then it was a clever idea to leak reports of their closeness and make it seem like they were having an affair,” says the source.

Sources also point out that the timing of the ‘leaks’ were cleverly monitored to ensure that Nargis becomes a known name by the time the promotions of the film begins. “News about Nargis is being very cleverly filtered out. She has been kept out-of-bounds and everytime there would something about Ranbir-Katrina gaining momentum, you would find Nargis making a quiet appearance,” the source adds.

Nobody is denying the fact that by getting portrayed as Ranbir Kapoor’s arm candy, Nargis has got a lot of mileage too, which very few newcomers have managed.

“Everyone wants to know if Nargis is dating Ranbir. Anybody who knows Ranbir will vouch that he doesn’t mind indulging in a little harmless flirtation,” the source ends.
