Washington: Sir Anthony Hopkins is set to play the role of American writer Ernest Hemingway in new film Hemingway & Fuentes.

Andy Garcia, who will play the role of the fisherman, Gregorio Fuentes, will also direct the film.

The story revolves around the writer's rapport with the Cuban fisherman who inspired him to write The Old Man and The Sea.

"Anthony is one of the greatest actors, and I'd heard he'd been interested in playing the character in the past. I'm blessed that he responded," Contactmusic quoted Garcia as saying.

Actress Annette Bening will play the part of the writer's third wife, Mary.

Daily Variety reports, Garcia wrote the script with the help of Hemingway's grand-daughter Hilary.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is perfect for the role of Ernest. As are the other actors cast. I wonder if this film will tell of Ernest's romantic flings too? Heard he was quite the ladies' man as well as a very gifted writer.
