Sukhwinder Singh, who was in Mohali to judge a singing reality show, was in for a surprise when the members of the Punjab and Haryana assembly invited him to be a part of the Assembly.

Sukhwinder, who is originally from Punjab, was delighted on receiving the invitation as he was the only non-MLA to be invited to be a part of the assembly session. In the middle of the session, the members including the CM Prakash Singh Badal and the deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal got up to honour Sukhwinder for his success.

“They didn’t call me only because I am from Punjab. They invited me for my singing and that is something special for me,” says Sukhwinder whose songs have seen success at the Oscars and Grammy Awards last year.

Sukhwinder says that it was a one-of-a-kind experience that he will never forget. “I always thought assemblies are chaos. But when I went in, there was pin-drop silence and there was a serious discussion on some social and progress issues. In between the session, they got up and honoured me. But after that, they immediately went back to their discussion,” he says, adding, “I was overwhelmed by the honour and respect the MLAs gave me. I never thought I’ll ever sit in the assembly either. Rewards are always better than awards.”
