Cowell, 50, Louis Walsh, 57, Dannii Minogue, 38, and Cheryl Cole, 26, that he is sick of their feuds.
"We did have a pep talk. We need to dig a bit deeper and give a little more to the show and the talent," the Daily Star quoted him as saying.
"It was time to bang a few heads together, tell them they need a rocket up their backsides," he said.
An insider added: "He made his feelings very clear. He's been unhappy with some aspects of this year's show."
