‘'Sheila ki Jawani' helped me shed my inhibitions’

She may be steaming up the music charts as ‘Sheila’, but Katrina Kaif insists it’s not an item song

‘'Sheila ki Jawani' helped me shed my inhibitions’

She’s easily the top contender for the numero uno spot at the BO, but for actor Katrina Kaif the crown of the Queen Bee has never been the motivation.

“I don’t see any point in gloating about something that changes with every Friday,” says the actor who’s had an enviable successful innings at the BO.

The actress — who has almost six biggies on her platter — now hopes to continue her success run with Farah Khan’s forthcoming flick. Her first item number, Sheila Ki Jawani from the film is already making waves, but Katrina’s quick to clarify that it’s not an item number. “I’m not making a special appearance, so it’s a dance number. Item song? I don’t think so.”

Katrina, however, does admit that she’s now game to try her hand at an item number. “This song did help me shed my inhibitions for sure. And working with Akshay (Kumar) helped.”

Katrina’s chemistry with Akshay on-screen in undeniable and she attributes it to the fact that they share friendly vibes off-screen too. “Your comfort level with co-stars does translate on-screen. I do feel that comfort level with Imran (Khan) too,” revealed the actor who’s currently shooting with the young Khan for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

One of those who guard her privacy fiercely, questions about her other co-star Ranbir Kapoor are met with an exasperated look. Clearly a topic she’d rather avoid. “There’ll always be rumours and speculation no matter how much we clarify. So, I’ve always stuck to keeping my private life private. So, yes, Ranbir’s a great co-star. There’s nothing else to say. Thank you.”

Katrina’s more forthcoming when it comes to talking about one aspect of her future — kids. “I would want to have my own children someday. I think that our childhood kind of shapes up the dreams that you start having for your own kids,” she reveals, adding, “I want to give them a stable and a well-balanced childhood.” Though Katrina herself had a stable childhood, she reveals that they would have to move often and because of that there was never a sense of belonging. “That’s something I missed that I would want to give to my children. But there’s a long time for all that,” she smiles. “Right now my entire focus is only on my work. Love, marriage… it’s not on my mind for now. So till then it’s a long wait,” she signs off.
