All that it needed to bring out Bollywood’s strong man Akshay Kumar’s soft side was a small letter from a nine-year-old girl. The gir,l Shravari Bhavesh Desai — from Navsari, a sleepy town near Surat — had sent a ‘thank you’ note to Akshay who had organised the national karate tournament a few days ago.
Akshay’s friend and advisor of the tournament, Mehul Vora found this letter while rummaging through the numerous letters he had received after the tournament.
“It was just a small thank you note but a very emotional one. She is already a student of the Nippon Budo Sogo international India for over five years and is currently a golden brown belt. She was one of the youngest participants in the tournament. In the letter, she said she had a nice time with Akshay being around and she wants to take part next year too. I showed the letter to Akshay,” said Mehul.
Since Shravari is about the same age as that of Akshay’s son Aarav (who will also turn nine next year). Akshay got emotional when he saw the letter. He immediately decided to sponsor the girl.
“Akshay has instructed that come what may, the girl’s training and practice should go on. He has asked us to ensure that financial concerns should be the least of her worries. Proper training in karate requires a lot of training from proper coaches. It also involves travelling abroad to take part in tournaments. You obviously require a lot of money,” said a source.
Akshay will soon extend his offer to the parents of the girl and request them to ensure that her education goes on uninterrupted.
Meanwhile, as news of Akshay’s generosity spread in her hometown, Sharvari has become a celebrity there and has even appeared in a local newspaper.
