Sanjay Gupta is in a happy place

Film-maker Sanjay Gupta is in a happy place and that is reflecting in his choice of movies of late.

Previously known as someone who would make thrillers, Sanjay is all set to produce a romantic comedy, based on a play by Barry Creyton. “I never set out to make thrillers as such, maybe it had something to do with my mood. These days I’m a very happy person, so funny scripts are catching my attention,” says Sanjay.

The director-producer is also making a film, Milte Hain, with Vidya Balan in the lead and the movie will be directed by Meghna Gulzar. Ask Sanjay what made him place his trust in Meghna, especially when her previous two films, Filhaal and Just Married, bombed at the box office and he gets defensive, “That’s okay. I’ve never worked with my directors looking at their past. If that were the case I wouldn’t work with Apoorva Lakhia (Ek Ajnabee and Shootout At Lokhandwala) after his first few films didn’t fare well. Milte Hain required Meghna’s expertise and sensitivity of the subject understanding as a woman.”

Talking about his much-hyped film Alibaug, Sanjay says that everyone associated with the film took time to digest the news of the film being shelved. “Alibaug was not an action film but about emotions, relationships and friendship. But you never know, I just might revive it in the future,” he says hinting that the film is definitely not a closed chapter in his life.

Till then Sanjay will be busy with the Hindi remake of the Spanish film Ladron de Loba Ladron.

Refusing to divulge any more details, he says, “It is still in the scripting stage. The cast will be finalized on the outcome of the script. But it will definitely be a mainstream cast and a multi-starrer.”
