Richard Gere has lent his support to the campaign in favour of turning the town of Bodhgaya into a vegetarian zone for peace.

The Pretty Woman actor, who turned away from eating red meat 30 years ago, participated in a five-day training session with the Dalai Lama in the Buddhist town.

The 60-year-old star also joined a march to highlight the campaign created by the Tibetans for a Vegetarian Society group, reports Contactmusic. Founder Tenzin Kunga Luding expressed his gratitude over the Hollywood heartthrob's involvement.

Luding said, "We have been calling for this since 2006 and slowly the campaign is building up. He really was very supportive and very good to us. It has helped the cause a lot."
