Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma lodged a complaint on Tuesday against the Bhartiya Janta Party's Yuva Morcha for threatening him because he expressed willingness to work with Maria Susairaj, a convict in the 2008 Neeraj Grover case.
Varma said the BJP's youth wing sent a warning letter to his office.
'Just lodged a complaint with the Versova police against the BJP Yuva Morcha's threat to me on the Maria Susairaj issue,' Varma tweeted.
Varma, whose Not A Love Story is based on the gruesome incident, said he wanted to caste the Kannada actress in his next film. He added that Maria had a right to start a fresh life since she had served her sentence.
The Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's cine-wings had also warned filmmakers and TV channels against casting Maria.
On Thursday, former Navy officer Emile Jerome was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Maria, who was sentenced for three years, walked free as she had already spent her term.
