Rakhi Sawant’s new controversy

‘Laxman died of natural causes’; Starlet Rakhi Sawant defends herself against allegations that she drove a participant of her TV show to commit suicide.

Rakhi Sawant’s new controversy

Starlet Rakhi Sawant is reportedly preparing to apply for anticipatory bail in response to an FIR filed against her in Jhansi district’s Prem Nagar police station on Friday, for allegedly humiliating a participant on her  TV show. The participant then allegedly committed suicide.

According to Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brij Lal, the complaint has been lodged by Savitri (the mother of the deceased participant, Laxman). According to the complaint, Laxman could not bear the insulting remarks made by Rakhi on the show and fell seriously ill after he returned home and had to be admitted to Jhansi Medical College on November 9. He died on November 10.

According to Brij Lal, a case has been registered under IPC sections 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 306 (abetment of suicide) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

In her defence, Rakhi issued a joint statement with the channel in which she claims that she is no way responsible for the participant’s death.

“As part of the regular process of doing research to find participants for the programme Rakhi ka Insaaf, our team first met Laxman Singh Aharwar and his family, including his mother, his wife Anita and his uncle Balbir Aharwar in August 2010. At this time we recorded everyone’s point of view on camera and the case was as follows — Anita alleged that her husband and his family were victimising her.

She alleged that post their marriage, Laxman’s uncle Balbir Aharwal started molesting her and wanted her to bear him a child. She further alleged that this was happening with Laxman’s knowledge and was something she could not accept and consequently left the house. Laxman on the other hand denied this and wanted his wife to come back to him,” Rakhi says in the statement.

Rakhi says that the family’s consent was taken at every step of the show. “On the show, SP Singh, an Inspector from the UP police, was also interviewed and he confirmed that Balbir Aharwar was of suspect character and that it was entirely possible that he would have tried to molest Anita,” the statement further states.
However, the channel keeps quiet about the “namard”  remark that allegedly pushed the participant towards death.

The statement continues, “After hearing both sides of the story Rakhi gave voice to Anita’s anguish by telling Laxman that he was not doing his duty as a husband by letting Balbir take advantage of his wife. Post this, the family went back home to Jhansi. Then the promos were aired. 18 days after telecast of the episode, on 10th November 2010, at 1:30 pm Laxman was admitted to Maharani Laxmibai Medical College and Hospital,  in Jhansi as he was feeling unwell. Despite the medical treatment, he breathed his last on 10th Nov at 2 pm.

Subsequently, the family collected his body from the hospital and cremated him. Subsequent to this, Balbir Aharwar and Savitri Aharwar (Laxman’s mother), suddenly started alleging that Laxman had committed suicide post his appearance on the show. However, from the hospital records and the doctor’s report, it is clear that Laxman was suffering from TB and died because of acute pneumonia.

While it is very unfortunate that Laxman has passed away and our condolences are with his family, it is obvious that Laxman died of natural causes and it is ludicrous to attempt to link his death to his appearance on the show. This is a gross misrepresentation of facts by Balbir Aharwar and Savitri Aharwar for reasons best known to them,” the statement ends.
