Raima Sen's need for speed

Actress Raima Sen, who was last spotted at the F1 stands in the Capital, is back in aamchi Mumbai and she says that she might be put up here for all of this month.

Talking about her experience at the races, Raima says that the thrill is to die for. “I went there with Riya (sister) and we shared the box with Akon, so that was like the cherry on the icing,” says Raima adding that this was the second time her sister and she attended the F1 races. She doesn’t claim to be a know-all on the sport, but she’s an enthusiast.

“I heard the drivers say that the track was up to the international standards and they were very pleased with it. The appreciation made me really proud. Riya and I had a blast – attending the races during the day time and partying at night. Everything about the event was truly international,” she gushes.

Talking about films, Raima says that her last release, Nauka Dubi got her rave reviews and contrary to popular perception, even did well in West Bengal.

“The Hindi version didn’t do so well but West Bengal was very receptive to the Bengali version. The best compliment I got was when a bunch of people told me that my performance reminded them of my grandmother – Suchitra Sen. They said that I got her back on the silver screen. It’s compliments like these that I cherish dearly,” says Raima.

The actress is increasingly being known as an artiste who does only intelligent or off beat cinema. Ask her if she wishes to break free of this perception and Raima shakes her head.

“I’m quite happy with the image for now. Films like Choker Bali and Nauka Dubi have contributed immensely to building this image for me. I’d like to believe that people identify me with good cinema and not just art films. This has also given me the opportunity to work with some of the finest directors in the country, so I’m not complaining,” she adds.
