Priyanka Chopra and I are close: Jay Sean

It has been a year of cross overs and breaking cultural barriers with musicians from all over the world coming to India to perform at concerts or special events.

UK-based singer Jay Sean too was here in the country for a multi-city tour recently, but yesterday he had  come down to perform at a private event.

Jay, who is of Indian origin, says though he is from UK, every time he is in Mumbai there is a special connect he feels.

In fact, he is so cued in to Bollywood that he is friends with most actors. “I love the song and dance routine in Hindi films, but I am more a fan of just the pure, simple Hindi films like Kal Ho Na Ho. That film had gorgeous songs. No song can make you cry like Indian songs, the melodies are very heartfelt,” he says talking about his connection with the industry.

Of course, Jay has several friends in the industry including actor Abhishek Bachchan, but his association with actor Priyanka Chopra is well known too.

Talking about how they struck a chord, Jay reveals, “I met her five years back in Hyderabad when I was doing a small promo shows. One of the organisers told me she was there to see me and I was like whoa! I dedicated Ride It To Her because she said it was her favourite song. Ever since then we have kept in contact and have stayed good friends. I have written three songs for her in her new album. We were recently in Los Angeles for a couple of weeks. It was a lot of fun, we both are the same age and share common interests so it’s like a very easy friendship. No ego clashing and I get to see her more often because she comes to LA.”

Quiz him if he has a special somebody in his life and he gets a little hesitant initially, but then reveals, “I am with somebody at the moment. But it is very difficult to find someone in this industry and to have somebody who understands your lifestyle and to understand all the attention you get. She is an Indian, but I am not going to tell you if she is from the industry. She may or may not be but when I am ready to talk about it, I will announce it.”
