London: Pop icon Boy George has said that his imprisonment earlier this year helped him get rid of his addiction to drugs.

The singer was released from prison in May after serving four months of a 15-month sentence for assault and false imprisonment involving a male escort.

The singer spoke about his experience attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings while in custody.

"I went in with all the tools you learn in Narcotics Anonymous about resilience and surrender," the singer was quoted as saying.

He added, "I went to NA meetings inside. The first week in Pentonville. Oh my god, I was horrified.

"I was like, I don't need it, I'm fine. I'd been to one in the '80s and I just thought they were all weirdos, which is a common get-out clause for anyone in denial but I went to one. Since that day my life has improved more than 100%."

George added that he has taken enough drugs in his life, so much so, that it had started getting tiring.

He said, "I'd just had enough. Lots of extreme things happened, but it was actually really a mundane day when I just decided I'd had enough."
