Preity Zinta creates a ruckus over ID check

There was apparently a tiff at the security check area of Chandigarh airport on Thursday, when actress Preity Zinta refused to show her ID card.

The airport authorities claim that Zinta was enraged that a leading actor like her was asked to show an ID card, but the actor says that she was carrying the ID card all along in her left hand.

According to officials at the airport, Zinta, who was to board a Delhi-bound flight from Chandigarh, was irritated as she was made to wait at the tiny security check area of the airport, and later got into a war of words with a lady officer of the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) who refused to let her pass without an ID.

“Preity Zinta refused to take out her ID card saying that everybody knows who she is, and it is just a waste of time. The officer on duty was adamant and wouldn’t allow her to pass without producing an ID card. Preity said that she was being harassed deliberately, but she was allowed to pass only after she took the ID out of her bag,” says a source.

The airport officials admitted to the incident.

“There is nothing wrong in asking to produce an ID proof. The CISF official was only doing her duty. But Zinta was adamant about not showing her ID. However, things were sorted out soon, and she was allowed to proceed after she showed her ID proof,”  reveals HS Toor, Airport Director at Chandigarh airport.

Zinta, who was boarding a flight to Dubai,  claimed through her spokesperson that this was not the case.

“Preity had her ID in her left hand all along and a newspaper in her right hand, which she was reading. There was no argument, not even a discussion. They asked her for an ID, which is normal. Preity doesn’t know why this so-called airport official is lying and giving such statements,” says the spokesperson.
