Pandit Ravi Shankar who turns 90 on April 7 next year is planning to tour with his daughter Anoushka Shankar for a series of performances, starting with Mumbai on December 19. The concert, aptly titled Anant, will be his “farewell concert” to the city according to the maestro, making the occasion all the more momentous.

But there is no doubt the maestro still rocks the stage. Ask him what keeps him going at 90 and he says, “Music is my second wife, Sathyabhama!” The last time the father-daughter duo toured together was in 2002 when Anoushka released a book about her father called Bapi: Love of My Life. As a father and as a guru he has always been keen to perform with his daughter. “With Anoushka, my best student, it is a great joy indeed,” he told After Hrs. Says Anoushka, “When we are on stage we are father-daughter, guru-shishya — various aspects of our relationship come out. It’s symbiotic when you come together with someone you understand in that way. I don’t come to that level with anyone else.”

The one thing her father wants to be remembered for is his legacy. He says sweetly, “Forget me not...”
