Pallavi Foley talks about trends in jewellery

How important are jewellery fashion weeks and do they actually make a realistic impact?
When one dresses, fine jewellery is usually the most expensive accessory that one is wearing. It helps people express their personal style and make a statement. Since jewellery is a part of the overall fashion, jewellery fashion weeks are important.

But how does it help the jewellery designers?
Fashion is about change and newness and jewellery designing today, is all about fashion, attitude and great craftsmanship. Designers today can pretty much look at anything for inspiration and craft truly unique products, since the buyers are ready for artistic, sculptural jewels, emerging from fresh inspirations. The idea is to think out of the box and create unique pieces of jewellery and fashion weeks encourage the same.

What was your experience at the India International Jewellery Week?
I think it is a great platform to showcase your talent and it was fantastic to see so many designers and jewellers participating and bringing forward new collections and ideas to the forefront. I had an awesome time and had a good experience.

What was the concept behind the theme Organzo Curves, which you showcased?
Organzo Curves is a collection inspired by the woman of today, who’s comfortable in her own skin, loves what she does and accepts herself just the way she is. The forms are inspired by nature and its beauty also. The design plays with layers and levels, raising questions about form, space and dimension.

Do you think only women make good jewellery designers?
No way, it is a career option for both men and women. There are equal number of good men designers as there are women. So, I think guys shouldn’t be reluctant on taking up jewellery designing as a profession.
