On Tuesday, one legend turned up in Bangalore to pay his last respects to another. Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth met Vishnuvardhan’s family and mourned the death of his best friend.

The actor, along with his wife Latha and Ambareesh, spent almost an hour at Vishnuvardhan’s Jayanagar home. “He and appa (Vishnuvardhan) were great friends. They used to catch up often when either of them was in Bangalore or Chennai. They have been part of each other’s journey in tinsel town. He just couldn’t believe that his best friend was no more,” said Anirudhha, Vishnuvardhan’s son-in-law. Rajnikanth, who acted in the Tamil remake of Vishnuvardhan’s hit film Apthamithra, was excited about the sequel Vishnuvardhan had recently finished.

The sequel, Aptharakshaka, is Vinshnuvardhan’s last film. “In fact, Rajinikanth had approached director P Vasu for a Tamil sequel,” said Aniruddha.

“He was planning to meet appa and take tips from him for the sequel,” said Aniruddha. “Rajnikanth was there for around half an hour. We never saw him that depressed ever. I guess that’s the effect appa had on people. He used to look at everyone, young and old as a friend.” Vishnuvardhan had acted in a cameo in Rajinikanth’s 100th film. Rajinikanth too had acted in two Kannada films alongside Vishnuvardhan.
