No big deal about kissing: Prachi Desai

She reveals her lesser-known naughtier side, dismissing rumours of her ever having a no-kissing clause in her contracts.

No big deal about kissing: Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai may be known for her coy, sweet girl-next-door image, but there’s definitely more to the actor than meets the eye, as we discovered when we caught up with the young actress for a quick tete-a-tete.

“Yes, I’m more spice than sugar,” says Prachi, giving us a glimpse of her naughty side, which till now had been rather well-hidden under the layers of an image that automatically got carried forward when she switched from TV to films. “People just tend to make assumptions about me because of the role I played on TV, but that’s not who I am,” she adds…

So, will the real Prachi please stand up?
Well, I work hard yes, but I like to have fun too like any normal 23-year-old would. The audience doesn’t see beyond the screen image, so it often comes as a shock to many to know that I’m nice, but also have a very naughty side.

Including on the dating scene?
Yes, there too. I’m not in a serious or committed relationship, yet, but I do have my share of heart indulgences.

You have managed to avoid being linked up with any of your co-actors so far?
Well, blame it on my working scene. Most of the actors I have worked with are almost 40-plus and married, so where’s the scope anyway? You have to play it safe there. Pair me with some young, unmarried actor, and let’s see then (laughs)!

As an actor, don’t contracts having clauses like a no-kissing one limit your options of films?
I don’t know where this was all started from, but the fact is that I’ve never had a no-kissing clause in my contract ever. As an actor I have never set any limitations for myself. And kissing or doing intimate scenes have certainly never been the deciding factor ever for me when it comes to choosing films.

So, would you be game for it in your films?
It depends on the film and the role really. I wouldn’t mind doing any of it, but at the same time, that doesn’t mean that I will do everything coming my way either. To be honest, I don’t really understand what’s the big deal about kissing or doing intimate scenes anyway? I mean, it may be embarrassing doing it with so many people watching, but I feel doing comedy is much more challenging than doing intimate scenes.

So you are okay with trading sweet with sexy?
Why trade, when you can be both!

Your upcoming film Bol Bachchan is a comedy, so was it intimidating working with three senior actors — Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Asin — who have proven their comic prowess already?
I was nervous initially, but not intimidated. I was more worried about their off-set pranks, I think, but then they helped break the ice early on, so it was all a smooth sail.
