My role in 'Badmaash Company' is very filmy, says comedian Vir Das

Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das says he prefers doing films only if they help him to get out of his own comfort zone.

"I am a successful stand-up English comedian. It is not necessary for me to do film after film to make a living. I would prefer films with one scene or a lead role only if it is going to take me out of the stand-up comedy zone," Das, who will be seen in upcoming Badmaash Company, told PTI.

The 28-year-old said he wants his films to bring new audiences. "Audience for English stand-up comedy is niche, corporate. But my character Chandu in Badmaash Company takes to a completely new audience because he is young and very commercial. Chandu is completely opposite of me in real life."

"Similarly, even in Abhinay Deo's Delhi Belly, in which I play one of the leads, is something the audience will not expect a comedian to do," Das said.

Das, who debuted in Mumbai Salsa in 2007 and also did a scene in Namastey London, said working on one film means giving up at least 80 to 90 TV shows.

"This means the film has to be very interesting. Working with Aamir Khan Productions and Yash Raj has been an experience of a lifetime."

For his character Chandu, Das said, he watched a lot of 80s and 90s movies featuring Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor. "The hairstyle is different. I am not from Mumbai, so had to learn the local lingo."
