In a bid to tackle the ever increasing problem of entertainment piracy in India causing losses to the tune of USD 959-million, the Motion Picture Association of America launched an anti-piracy coalition with the Indian film industry and Hollywood studios.

The coalition which was launched by MPPA chairman, Dan Glickman, at the FICCI FRAMES global convention here, would
target all forms of piracy, both physical and online.

Quoting a 2008 KPMG report, Glickman said the piracy rate in the Indian film industry was 60 per cent and amounting to USD 959-million.

According to him, there was a pressing need for a stronglegislative and enforcement response to tackle the issue of
copyright theft.
