Mind it: City twitterati worship Rajinikant’s awesomeness

An unusual week on Twitter for Mumbai, with no local highlight, but well, when there’s nothing, there’s Bollywood to keep us talking. Lots of filmy tweets this week.

Legend of Rajinikant
Amongst the most wickedly witty trending topics this week was that about south Indian superstar Rajnikant who made headlines for more reasons than one. Apart from his daughter’s wedding, his unquestioned supremacy in the South was behind #legendofrajni.

Presenting some of the best ones: Rajinikant doesnt wear a watch. He decides what time it is, His Gmail address is gmail@rajnikanth.com, If Rajini spells something wrong, Oxford simply adds it to the dictionary, When God said let there be light, Rajini said ‘say please’!, Rajinikant can even delete your recycle bin, When you say “no one is perfect”, Rajinikant takes this a personal insult, Ghosts are formed coz of Rajini killing people faster than death can process them, Rajinikant does not drink coffee with Karan, he drinks Karan with coffee. And my favourite: Rajinikanth killed the Dead Sea.

Spies of Chulbul Pandey on Twitter

Twittosphere is currently being inundated with tweets from users who claim to have seen Dabangg and therefore rave about it being “a paisa vasool film”. Here’s an example, @DsignerHippies: Guys... saw DABANGG last night... all i can say is.... GET READY.... TO LOOSE UR MIND :) full paisa Vasool. What’s more interesting is that these tweets are being constantly retweeted by what look like suspicious Twitter handles made for the sole purpose of creating hype before the film’s release on September 10. For example, there’s @salmanmaniafc whose display picture is the film’s title alongwith its release date clearly mentioned on it. If not fans of Salman Khan, these certainly look like rats of Chulbul Pandey born just in time to market the film.

Konkona-Ranbir wedding
Actors Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranvir Shorey are regulars on Twitter and this meant that every Mumbaikar expected his ‘twishes’ to be conveyed to the couple for their wedding, which took place on September 3. Heartening to note that both actors acknowledged it and eventually tweeted the same words: “We wanted you to read it here first but...We got married! Yay!” Shorey, in fact, went a step further and tweeted: The best wish/advice I’ve received on marriage so far: “Congratulations! Don’t do it again.”
