London: Despite being previously banned from the wrestler ring by his insurers, Mickey Rourke wants to return to the WWE.

Despite being previously banned from the wrestler ring by his insurers, Mickey Rourke wants to return to the WWE.

In his new book, Wrestling With Demons, Rourke says that a clause in his contract for the Iron Man 2 movie banned him from wrestling Chris Jericho in a one-on-one match because he could have been injured and delayed filming.

The Hollywood legend says he walked away from the WrestleMania experience "disappointed" after his only involvement was punching Chris Jericho after Jericho was booked to defeat Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, and Jimmy Snuka in a handicap match.

Now, the 57-year-old has admitted he still hopes to have a proper match in the WWE one day.

His biographer Sandro Monetti told SunSport: "Mickey has great respect for WWE owner Vince McMahon and says he is the man who turned wrestling from a sport for fat guys in speedos to a contest for superfit athletes.

"He wants to help the wrestling community all he can having fallen in love with the sport over the course of that amazing movie."
