Los Angeles: Even as Michael Jackson's first offering from beyond the grave 'This is It', climbs the charts, it has been reported that the track was stolen by the late 'King of Pop'.
Singer-songwriter Paul Anka claimed that he co-wrote the song with Jackson in 1983 but the 'Thriller' hitmaker "stole" the original tapes of the song from his studio.
Anka had threatened legal action against Jackson's estate to secure royalties and in a quick settlement the special administrators of the estate have made him a 50% partner in the publishing rights to the song, reported TMZ.
Anka, a teen idol in the 1950s and 60s who famously penned the lyrics to Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' said that the issue has been "resolved".
"They realised it's a mistake. They realised it's my song, they realised it's my production of his vocal in my studio, and I'm getting 50%, actually, of the whole project, which is fair," he said.
The estate also released a statement saying , "The song was co-written by the legendary Paul Anka."
The song features backing vocals by Michael's brothers and will be played during the closing sequence of the forthcoming documentary Michael Jackson's This Is It and feature on a two-disc CD set of the same name.
The song also appeared to have had a previous incarnation as 'I Never Heard,' a single recorded 18 years ago by Puerto Rican R&B singer Safire and credited to Jackson and Anka.
