Marriage on mind, but not this year: Dia Mirza

Actor Dia Mirza admits to falling prey to all the jazz surrounding days earmarked for love like Valentine’s Day.  Dia is quite open about her relationship with filmmaker Saahil Singha, but marriage, she is quick to add, is not on the cards this year.

Talking about what attracts her in a man, Dia says that like most women, she is a sucker for a well-behaved man — one who treats his woman with respect and commands the same in return. “Every girl looks for a partner whom she can grow with. A sense of security and respect help you love your partner in the long run,” says Dia. And what qualities put her off in a man? “Clingy partners,” she’s quick to reply, elaborating, “The kind who like to control their better halves puts you off the most. If you love someone you should accept a person for who they are and not try to change them. That’s a strict no-no.”

Ask her if Saahil possesses all the must-have qualities that she’s listed above and Dia says, “Of course!” So, when are they planning to tie the knot? “I know everyone in Bollywood seems to be getting married, but that doesn’t mean that I’m ready for it too,” she says, adding that marriage is definitely on her mind but not this year.

“We’ve discussed it and I don’t think it’s on the cards this year. We decided that there’s a lot to do on the work front and there’s a lot involved in organising a wedding —the budget, location — it takes up a lot of your time and energy. Having said that, I don’t know what is in store for me but as of now I don’t see myself tying the knot this year,” she adds. Ask Dia if she is a romantic at heart and she gushes, “I am a complete romantic, but I look at Valentine’s Day as a merchandise con day.” Does that mean she doesn’t celebrate the day at all? “I believe in celebrating love everyday. But I confess that I do fall prey to V-Day occasionally,” she laughs.
