'Magadheera' paved the way: Kajal Aggarwal

She’s undoubtedly one of the biggest brands in South Indian cinema. Kajal Aggarwal, with films like Magadheera, Aarya 2 and Naan Mahaan Alla to her credit, is the most sought after heroine here. Now, Bollywood director Rohit Shetty has seen her recent work and decided to cast her in the remake of Singam, opposite Ajay Devgn.

“It all worked out so easily. Rohit, my director, had seen Magadheera and was impressed with my performance. In that sense, Magadheera won me this role. He approached me, I liked the subject and everything about this project and since I had dates available too, I accepted the offer,” says Kajal.

The actor, who did a small role in the 2004 release Kyun… Ho Gaya Na!, is returning to a Hindi film after nearly eight years. “It wasn’t like I didn’t get offers from Bollywood. The truth is, nothing seemed convincing enough. Plus, I had my South Indian films keeping me busy,” says Kajal, about her choice to debut in Bollywood as a heroine now.

Either ways, the actor, stands a better chance of getting projects today than ever before. Talking about the film, she says, “I’m very excited to be part of this project and to be able to work with people like Rohit and Ajay. The film was a big hit in Tamil and the story has a nice role for the heroine. I will commence work on this film next month. I cannot wait for it to begin!”

The Mumbai girl, who also has as many as five other projects in hand now, is excited that this new decade is shaping out so well. “I just hope it all gets bigger and better,” Kajal hopes.

Anushka loses out

The fact that Kajal Aggarwal has bagged this film also means that Anushka Shetty, the heroine of Singam, who was the frontrunner for this Bollywood project, will have to wait longer to make her B-town entry.
