Lekha Washington signs her second Kannada film

A VJ, television anchor, sculptor and actor... Lekha Washington has been a busy girl indeed. And the good part is that there is more to come. The Chennai-born actress, who was in Bangalore recently, signed her second Kannada film.

After playing one of the lead roles in Indrajit Lankesh’s Huduga Hudugi opposite Sameer Dattani, she is all excited to play the female lead in her upcoming film. Though she can’t divulge many details as she is under contract not to talk about the movie, she says, “I am playing the female lead opposite a popular action-hero from the Kannada film industry. It’s a triangular love story and different from my previous film, Huduga Hudugi. We will commence the shoot from this month-end.” The producer of the movie, who is known to have churned out blockbusters, was convinced that Lekha fits the role perfectly, says a source.

Though she loves to flit between Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada film industries, she finds the name of Kannada film industry quite interesting. “To start with, the name Sandalwood itself is quite interesting. Though I am not really clued in about how it works, I was glad to have worked with people like Indrajit who knows his job in-and-out. I am looking forward to this one too,” she says excitedly.

She has also signed a Telugu project, which is a remake of a popular Bollywood movie. “Usually it’s the other way round, but I am glad to play the female lead in the flick’s official Telugu movie. After being part of a blockbuster like Vedam, I didn’t want to take up any run-of-the-mill stories. This one is unconventional,” says Lekha who will be cast opposite a newcomer in this movie.

Though she signed a three-film deal with Bollywood’s ace-filmamker Rajkumar Santhoshi, she still hasn’t got her due in Bollywood as yet. “Bollywood is indeed taking a long time and of course, it’s upsetting. Nevertheless, am positive about the movies I am working for and hoping for a great start,” she explains.

So, does she have any benchmark? “I want to do films that put my brains into good use and push me on to the loop. Revathi is one actor I look up to and consider her to be my benchmark,” she signs off.
