Karan Johar’s back to school!

Ever since filmmaker Karan Johar’s released the first look of his upcoming film Student of The Year, there’s been much buzz about the three debutants – Varun Dhawan, Aliya Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra – in the film. The newbies apart, there was also much curiosity about the line-up of actors making cameos in the film. But Karan was quick to set the record straight. “No other actor (including actor and good friend Shah Rukh Khan) is doing a cameo in the film, except Kajol,” he’d said at the event held to unveil the trailer of the film recently. The filmmaker whose film is set in a campus, also revealed that the film was like going back to school for him. “I felt like a student myself. I feel that in our industry one is always a student, as there’s always something new to learn and it was a fun learning experience with these youngsters,” said KJo, adding that there were times when he even felt like a father.

The filmmaker – who’s known to give a break to many new directors – also announced that he now intends to launch new faces regularly. And according to an insider, ever since this was made public, Karan’s production office has been flooded with aspiring actors mailing their profiles by the dozen every day. Says a source, “We get mails by the bulk from aspiring actors. Working with a filmmaker like Karan is a dream for any actor and they obviously see an opportunity now,” says the source. “So far, Karan has never worked with newbies, but now he intends to give fresh talent a chance. It’s encouraging for a lot of newcomers who are trying to break into Bollywood,” the source adds.
