Jude Law is simply the best: Tannishtha Chatterjee

She is well known for her performance in the 2007 film Brick Lane and also for being the first Indian to be nominated for the British Independent Film Awards (BAFTA). Now, actor Tannishtha Chatterjee has just added another feather to her cap. The actor just finished shooting for a Hollywood film Anna Karenina opposite British heartthrob Jude Law!

Tannishtha, who just returned from hosting the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (Oscars of the East), says, “It was a fantastic experience! It was stressful but being the first Indian to host the awards made it more worthwhile.” Talking about shooting with Jude, she says excitedly, “We just finished shooting the first schedule of director Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina and Jude is simply the best! He is so systematic and knows as well as values the importance of time. He is so down to earth and will make you feel comfortable immediately. I learnt so much by seeing him work on the sets.”

Based on author Leo Tolstoy’s Russian classic of the same name, Anna Karenina revolves around the story of Anna – trapped in a loveless marriage, she looks for a better life, but finds only a more complicated one. The film also stars Pirates of the Caribbean actor Keira Knightley.

Tannishtha was all praise for the film’s director as well, “I am the only coloured person in the entire cast. And it was Joe who wanted me to be a part of this project. He is one of the very best directors that I have worked with. It’s his vision and everything is so sorted in his mind. And he wanted me to do a special part in the movie.” Apart from grabbing a dream role opposite Jude, Tannishtha also sang a song in the film. “I did sing a song in the film, which was composed by Anoushka Shankar who is married to the director Joe,” she reveals.
