JJ Abrams hopes science-fiction film wins best film Oscar

Director JJ Abrams has revealed that he has high hopes of a science fiction movie winning the Best Film Award at the Oscars.

Abrams, 43, who was honoured on March 4 for his contribution to the film industry at the Oscar Wilde awards, said that he is a huge fan of movies District 9 and Avatar and that he is happy both have been nominated.

"I think there's a real shot. I know everyone's looking at Avatar, but I was a huge fan of District 9 as well," the BBC quoted him as saying.

"I'm just excited that they're both up there, nominated for best picture.

"I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and fantasy, horror, so as long as the films keep getting made, whatever awards they win or don't win is sort of beside the point," he added.
