It’s wrong to say I have had it easy: Shazahn Padamsee

Actress Shazahn Padamsee who made her Bollywood debut with Rocket Singh-Salesman Of The Year says she has learnt a lot since her first film. Shazahn agrees that she was quite young and naive when she started out. “Rocket Singh was a dream debut for me but I was very young then. Though it wasn’t the ideal role to debut with, I think it did quite well,” she adds.

Saying so, she goes on to narrate a related incident, “You know there was a friend who was watching the movie on television and she called me up and said, ‘I was looking for you in the film, where were you?’ It was really funny because trust me when I saw the movie I was searching for myself too. I barely had a role in it but this year has taught me a lot and I feel a lot mature now.”

Just like theatre, films were never on her list of priorities, says the petite actress and it was a pleasant surprise when she landed herself roles in Bollywood. “I am not from a film family. I come from a hardcore theatre background and though my parents have friends in the industry I didn’t bag a role through their recommendations. In fact, when I went for my first audition, I didn’t even write my surname on the list. Within a year, I was endorsing a lot of brands and when I look back I am happy that I achieved it all on my merit,” she asserts.

She is quick to add, “My parents helped me meet people but they are not the kind who will produce a film for me.”

Shazahn is also sure that she does not want to go the art film way just yet. “My next film is a romantic comedy and I am paired with Ajay Devgn in that. This is my first tryst with romance and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I am too young and I have just started out so at this stage of my career I want to do feel-good, commercial films. Relatively serious roles can wait,” she says.
However, as an after-thought she adds, “Though I am not saying anything now, if Vishal Bhardwaj offers me a role, then I will surely jump on to do it.”
